Mission Here I Come

I am so excited to serve on a mission in Birmingham, Alabama and spread the gospel. I have been everywhere else in the US except the south-eastern states. Just in case some of you are wondering what is cool about Alabama I have included the top ten places to visit...

In 1st place is the Alabama River. Be sure to checkout this River while you're in Alabama.

In 4th place is the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Be sure to checkout this Park while you're in Alabama.

In 5th place is the Russell Cave National Monument. Be sure to checkout this Cave while you're in Alabama.

In 6th place is the 16th Street Baptist Church. Be sure to checkout this Church while you're in Alabama.

In 10th place is the Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic. Be sure to checkout this Festival while you're in Alabama.
My dad would especially like the last one, with all our 4th of July balloon fests.

Montgomery is the capital and the birthplace of the Confederate States of America.
The Confederate flag was designed and first flown in Alabama in 1861.
At 2,405 feet Cheaha Mountain is Alabama's highest point above sea level.  (wow that is high)
Huntsville is known as the rocket capital of the World.
The word Alabama means tribal town in the Creek Indian language.
The Monarch butterfly (Danaus pleipuss) is the state's official insect.
On January 11, 1861 Alabama becomes the fourth state to secede from the Union.
Singer and entertainer Nathaniel Adams (Nat King) Cole was known as the man with the velvet voice. He was born in Montgomery in 1919 and died in 1965.
At the Battle of Mobile Bay Admiral David Farragut issued his famous command, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." The event occurred on August 5, 1864.
The pecan is the Alabama's official nut.
